PET Jar Enables Revolution in Mushroom Eating Habits
The choice of a PET jar from RPC Containers has helped Jampol, a Polish producer of dried mushrooms, to deliver a modern packaging solution that enables consumers worldwide to enjoy forest-fresh produce throughout the whole year.
Due to Slavic tradition, forest mushrooms are commonly eaten only during the holiday periods of Christmas and Easter. Nevertheless, the popularity of Jampol`s natural, preservative-free produce is growing both at home and abroad, and the company has recently invested in state-of-the-art "protective atmosphere" packing technology to capitalise on this trend.
Jampol desired a container format to complement the improved shelf-life benefits achievable on the new packing line. Previously, the mushrooms were supplied in PE bags, which proved inconvenient both in terms of its poor barrier properties and lack of durability, meaning that products were often crushed during transit.
RPC`s solution overcomes both of these concerns. The PET injection-moulded jar from RPC Blackburn offers the necessary rigidity to keep products safe, whilst the recloseable lid - manufactured by RPC Halstead - is lined with induction sealing foil to guarantee a hermetic seal for product freshness.
The wide labelling area on the lid enables eye-catching decoration without obscuring the product contents, which are highly visible thanks to the excellent contact clarity of the jar.
Three jar sizes have been specified - a 700ml capable of holding 50g of dried mushrooms, 1400ml for 100g, and a 5000ml size holding 500g of mushrooms, ideal for the catering trade.
"The new packaging for our mushrooms supplied by RPC fulfils all of our branding and functional requirements, and enables our produce to be enjoyed any time and any place without losing freshness," comments Leszek Kamieniarz of Jampol.
